Melvin Engelbrecht is a husband, father of three, and a civil engineer who found himself in territory his technical training never prepared him for: the quiet, persistent weight of unprocessed emotional pain.
His professional career has been built around systems, structure, and solving complex problems under pressure. But it was his own personal journey that showed him how much that same structured thinking could help people face something far harder than any project deadline.
Based in the Wellington Region of New Zealand, Melvin began exploring reflective writing out of a personal need to make honest sense of difficult emotions. What he discovered changed the direction of his life. Writing gave shape to things he had never been able to say out loud. It gave him a place to put the old memories, the shame, the quiet fears that had been running in the background for years. He wrote about a teacher publicly correcting him in front of his class. He wrote about professional setbacks that felt heavier than they should have. He wrote about the moments that had quietly shaped how he saw himself, and how he responded to others.
That process became the foundation for The Trauma Letter Method.
Melvin writes for the person who appears fine on the outside but knows something inside is still unfinished. He offers a practical, step-by-step process grounded in both expressive writing research and personal faith, with real prompts, letter templates, and honest reflection tools you can use quietly and alone.
He is not writing from a place of perfect healing. He is still on this road. And that is exactly the point.
When he is not writing, Melvin is developing his communication and storytelling skills through Toastmasters International.
