Presley Vann

Presley Vann grew up a young Black boy in the segregated town of Pocatello in southeastern Idaho. His early life reflected the rebellious boyish nature of Tom Sawyer and the free-spirited nature of Huckleberry Finn. This adventurous youth was guided by a faithful, God-fearing mother and contrasted by a father who frequently took his highly impressionable son to local speakeasies in the seedy part of the Pocatello Triangle area.

A Journey Through American History

Presley's life journey spans decades of profound personal and cultural transformation:

• The 1950s: A childhood in a Pocatello that resembled Norman Rockwell's iconic scenes.

• The 1960s: An emotional and transformative college experience during a turbulent decade.

• The 1970s: Eight exciting years of dedicated service in the United States Marine Corps.

• The Aftermath: A tumultuous yet deeply rewarding 32-year career in electronic engineering, assisted by loyal friends and AA recovery program.

About the Memoir

Presley’s life is beautifully chronicled in his debut memoir, Pocatello: The Starting Place of Grace.

At its heart, it’s a story of hope—the hope of a mother who constantly prayed for and never stopped believing in her son, the compassion of a teacher who changed the course of a student's life, the unwavering love of a wife who stood beside her husband through life's storms, and the enduring promise that healing is possible for those willing to ask for help. Above all, it is a testament to the life-changing grace of the one true and living God.

Today, Presley writes to encourage readers who are searching for purpose, struggling through life's challenges, or simply longing for reassurance that redemption is always within reach. His story reminds us that our past does not define our future—and that grace often shows up in the most unexpected places.
