Steve Carpenter

As a newly minted Coast Guard ensign, Carpenter chose his first duty assignment on a buoy tender homeported in Guam, Micronesia, halfway around the world from his Rhode Island home. Following his tour in Guam, as a 24-year-old, he served in Hawaii as Commanding Office of a 95-foot patrol boat, with a crew of 17 men. Later he became Executive Office of EAGLE, “America’s Tall Ship.” During his two-years on EAGLE, the 295-foot square rigged sail training vessel sailed to Europe twice including stops in London, Leningrad, and Rouen in celebration of France’s bicentennial.

He is an avid hiker, swimmer, biker, and pickleball player. Over a period of 15 years, he section hiked 1,100 miles, or half, of the Appalachian Trail including most of Virginia and Pennsylvania, and all but a few miles in New England.

Carpenter earned a BS in Mathematics from the C.G. Academy, an Executive MBA from Tulane University, and a Master of Arts in religion from Eastern Mennonite Seminary. He and his wife Chris live in Harrisonburg, Virginia in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. They have one adult daughter and two granddaughters. This is his second book.
