Giuseppe Soda

Giuseppe “Beppe” Soda is Professor of Organization Theory and Network Analysis at Bocconi University and SDA Bocconi School of Management. His work explores a central question for organizations: how do formal structures and informal networks combine to shape the way people coordinate, make decisions, innovate, and perform?

His research has helped connect organization theory and organizational design with real managerial problems, using robust empirical methods to study issues that matter for both scholars and practitioners. He has published in leading academic journals, including Administrative Science Quarterly, Management Science, Organization Science, Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal, and Research Policy.

His book "Formal and Informal Networks in Organizations" published by Oxford University Press adopts a network perspective on organizational design, conceptualizing organizations as landscapes of interconnected formal and informal relationships. It speaks to both scholars and practitioners by developing a unified theory and methodology for understanding how these relationships shape one another, evolve together, and jointly influence organizational outcomes.

Giuseppe teaches organization theory, organizational design, and social network analysis across Master, MBA, Executive MBA, and PhD programs. He previously served as Dean and Head of Research of SDA Bocconi School of Management and as Director of Bocconi’s Department of Management and Technology.
