Mark Schenerman

Dr. Mark Schenerman is a leading voice in biopharmaceutical development, blending decades of executive industry experience with a passion for shaping the next generation of scientists. Currently serving as Professor of the Practice of Biotechnology and Graduate Program Director at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), he also advises global academic, industry, and regulatory groups as the President of CMC Biotech-MAS Consulting.

Dr. Schenerman’s distinguished career spans pioneering roles at some of the world’s top biopharmaceutical companies. He previously served as Senior CMC Advisor for Science, Technology, and Strategy at Novavax, and spent over two decades at MedImmune/AstraZeneca. Joining MedImmune in 1994, he was instrumental in building and leading the company’s Analytical Biochemistry function and spearheading Chemistry, Manufacturing, & Control (CMC) strategies that led to successful global regulatory filings from IND to BLA. His early career includes foundational R&D and biologics development roles at Bristol-Myers Squibb.

A champion for the advancement of regulatory science, Dr. Schenerman has spent his career building vital collaborations between peer biopharmaceutical companies, academic institutions, and government agencies.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology from the University of Maryland, a doctorate in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Florida, and completed his post-doctoral research at Cornell University.
