Joan Orr

Joan Orr was born in Seattle, Washington, and is the proud mother of five children—four sons and one daughter. Her life has been shaped by a love of learning, a deep connection to nature, and a passion for helping others navigate life’s challenges with practical wisdom and compassion.

Before returning to the Pacific Northwest, Joan spent many years as a professional horse trainer in Northern California. After experiencing her own health challenges, including a battle with autoimmune illness, she developed an even greater interest in holistic health, chronic disease, and the complex ways the body, mind, and environment interact. This journey led her to pursue formal studies through Maharishi International University, where she focused on integrative wellness, Ayurvedic principles, yoga, and wellness coaching.

Today, Joan lives off-grid at the end of a dirt road surrounded by the forests of northeastern Washington. From this quiet corner of the Pacific Northwest, she spends her time writing, researching, caring for animals, and exploring the connections between science, lifestyle, resilience, and long-term health.

As the author of the Iron Root Wellness Series, Joan is dedicated to bringing research, practical wellness strategies, and systems-based perspectives together in one place. Her goal is to help readers better understand their bodies, ask informed questions, and discover realistic pathways toward greater health and balance.

She believes that growth begins with curiosity, knowledge grows through experience, and meaningful change happens one deliberate step at a time.
