Sean McKenna is a British-American writer, stay-at-home father, primary caregiver to his daughter with Spina Bifida, and lifelong student of the beautiful game. Born in Indiana and raised between the West Midlands of England and Gainesville, Florida, he grew up with a football at his feet and the belief that the game could teach you almost everything worth knowing about life.
Sean and his wife Kelsey are the parents of three children — Lyn, Lily, and Alex. Lily was born with Spina Bifida and has spent her early years redefining what grit looks like. Alex arrived as an unexpected gift after the family went through IVF for their two eldest due to Sean's infertility diagnosis. The family lives with their Australian Shepherd Mia and Belgian Tervuren Rio, who carries on the lineage of their beloved late captain, Liam.
A former youth coach and program coordinator, Sean has written about paternal postpartum depression for the Postpartum Support International and serves as a member of the Florida Parent Leader Alliance. He holds a U.S. Soccer coaching license and can usually be found watching football (soccer) of all levels at unreasonable hours.
Sean is passionate about connecting with others around the themes at the heart of his work — fatherhood, mental health, disability advocacy, and the quiet courage it takes to ask for help.
