Colonel Virendra Swarup

Colonel Virendra Swarup is a retired Indian Army Armoured Corps officer, leadership thinker, author, and transcendental life coach whose life embodies resilience, discipline, and purposeful living.

Baptized in battle as a young officer, he lost the sight of his right eye early in his military career—yet never paused. As a half-blind Major, he went on to fight in the 1971 Indo-Pak War, contributing to the historic birth of Bangladesh. That early trial of fire shaped his lifelong conviction that adversity is not a barrier, but a forge that strengthens character and purpose.

Across nearly three decades of distinguished military service, Colonel Swarup commanded soldiers and armoured formations in both peace and war, shaping leaders and strengthening institutions rooted in courage, clarity, and decisive action. His command of the 44 Armoured Regiment reflected not only operational excellence, but also a profound commitment to developing human potential under the most demanding conditions.

In 1992, at the height of his career, he lost his eyesight completely in a tragic accident. What could have ended his journey instead became a defining transformation. Through inner resolve, spiritual grounding, and relentless self-discipline, he rebuilt his life—emerging not diminished, but renewed.

Colonel Swarup first chronicled his extraordinary military and personal journey in his earlier memoir, Across Seven Seas – The Memoirs of a Blind Colonel (2007). His latest book, Own Where You Stand – A Journey of Resilience and Purpose, expands that journey into a deeper exploration of leadership, resilience, purpose, and inner transformation. Through lived experience, reflective wisdom, and practical insight, his writing speaks to soldiers, professionals, leaders, and seekers alike.

His message is simple yet profound: wherever life places you, stand firm—own where you stand.

Now based in the United States, Colonel Swarup continues to inspire audiences across generations through his writing, speaking, coaching, and personal example—demonstrating that true strength is not the absence of adversity, but the ability to rise above it with dignity, faith, and purpose.
