Paula Lockhart, Ph.D. is an educator, researcher, author, and natural wellness educator from Dominica whose work focuses on sustainable human development, community wellness, plant-based health education, and the preservation of Caribbean cultural knowledge. With an interdisciplinary background spanning conflict resolution, international relations, education, political science, and capacity building, she is passionate about helping individuals and communities pursue healthier, more sustainable futures through education, wellness awareness, and community empowerment.
Dr. Lockhart holds degrees in International Studies and French from the University of Mississippi, a Master’s degree in International Relations from IE Business School in Madrid, Spain, a Master’s degree in French from the University of Mississippi, a Master’s degree in Political Science from Sul Ross State University, and a Ph.D. in Conflict Analysis and Resolution from Nova Southeastern University. Her professional background spans education, communications, training, international development, and community engagement, including service with the Organization of American States (OAS) and collaborations across the Caribbean, Latin America, Africa, and the United States.
She is co-author of Natural Plant-Based Remedies: Your Gateway to Health, Healing and Well-Being and The Herbal Physician’s Guide to Food and Nutrition for Health, Healing and Well-being, collaborative works exploring herbal medicine, nutrition, preventive health, and community wellness through a Caribbean lens. In partnership with herbalist Renauld “Deja” Deschamps and Rootz Herbal Remedies, she also contributes to public education initiatives, workshops, wellness outreach, and youth-centered projects focused on preserving traditional plant knowledge, promoting sustainable agriculture and food security, and encouraging healthier lifestyles that strengthen communities.
Dr. Lockhart’s upcoming projects include works on Caribbean life, culture, food traditions, and sustainable wellness practices, as well as educational herbal coloring and activity books and a herbal reference and plant encyclopedia designed to document medicinal plants, traditional uses, and related wellness applications throughout the Caribbean region.
Through her writing, teaching, research, and community engagement, she hopes to inspire greater awareness of the connections between health, culture, food, education, agriculture, peacebuilding, and sustainable human development.
