A Brief History of D. Dean Carroll
I was born in Chicago many, many years ago. At an early age, my family moved to the village of New Paris, Ohio, where I remained until graduating from high school. New Paris was a small town where I was able to enjoy, and take advantage of, the freedoms a small town like New Paris could provide. I made many friends during my time there; some I remain in contact still to this day.
After graduating from National Trail High School, I moved back to Chicago where I attended a trade school studying photography. Halfway through my first semester, I stopped attending classes and pursued my interest in music. During that first year, I met my wife, and we’re still navigating life together. I composed, arranged, and recorded four songs during that period and came to realize that while I wasn’t bad at music, I just wasn’t good enough. As a result, I shifted my creative interest toward writing. I enjoy it more and it’s easier to share.
While in Chicago, my son was born. We decided that while we loved living in the Windy City, in our opinion, it wasn’t the best place to raise our son. Compared to my childhood in New Paris, the freedom and independence I enjoyed would not be available to him in Chicago.
As a result, we decided to move to Mobile Alabama. It offered all the amenities of a big city on a small city scale. It’s suburbs offered the lifestyle we desired for our son, and it was just an hour away from my parents living in Gulfport, Mississippi. While in Mobile, I became a teacher for the public school system and spent the last twenty years in that profession teaching at Semmes Middle School, in Semmes, Alabama.
Retirement allowed more time to pursue my writing, and live the lifestyle I’ve always desired, living life as I pleased. I continue to do that to this day.
