KC Collins

KC Collins is an Associate Professor in the School of Information Technology at Carleton University, where she researches sound design, audio in games and virtual environments, and the user experience of sound. She previously held a Tier II Canada Research Chair and a tenured position at the University of Waterloo. She is the author of several books on game and sound studies published by MIT Press, including Game Sound (2008, winner of the International Association for the Study of Popular Music Book Award), Playing with Sound (2013), Studying Sound (2020), and the forthcoming Sonic UX: The Science of Sound and the User Experience (2026), along with The Oxford Handbook of Interactive Audio (2014, Oxford University Press) and other works. Her research has earned her recognition as one of the "Fifty Most Inspirational Women in Technology in Canada" and membership in the Royal Society of Canada's College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists.
