Vince Lahey

Vince Lahey is the author of The Furry Mountain Monkeys of Aspen, Colorado, a work of historical fiction inspired by Aspen’s mining history, mountain culture, and the enduring themes of adaptation, survival, and acceptance.

In 1994, while living in Aspen, he saw a small classified ad in the Aspen Daily News inviting writers to create a children’s story incorporating Aspen history. He sat down and wrote what would eventually become The Furry Mountain Monkeys of Aspen, Colorado.

The story blends real elements of Aspen’s silver mining era with an imagined hidden world deep beneath the mountains, where Japanese snow monkeys survive in secret using underground hot springs and glowing green eyes that illuminate a subterranean jungle.

Beyond writing, Vince has worked as a television host, ski coach, auctioneer, and storyteller in the Aspen community for decades. He now lives in Arizona with his wife Diana, while continuing to develop new creative projects inspired by history, animals, resilience, and the mountain towns that shaped his life.
