Stuart C King

Stuart C. King, MD, MBA, is a board-certified physician, educator, and healthcare leader with more than three decades of experience in medicine. Since graduating from medical school in 1995, he has built a career spanning anesthesiology, pain medicine, academic leadership, institutional governance, and private practice—giving him a rare, inside view of how medicine truly works.

Dr. King’s mission is to equip physicians with the knowledge medical school never taught them: how to build sustainable careers, protect their financial future, and maintain personal fulfillment while practicing ethical, high-level medicine. Through decades of mentoring medical students, residents, and practicing physicians, he has become a trusted voice on career strategy, healthcare economics, work-life balance, and long-term professional resilience.

He trained and practiced in both academic and private settings and held faculty and administrative appointments at the University of Illinois. He later served on the board of trustees of the University of Illinois, where he chaired the healthcare committee with oversight responsibility for the University of Illinois health system in Chicago—a multibillion-dollar enterprise serving a major metropolitan region. In addition to his clinical and governance work, Dr. King built and led a successful medical practice and has advised physicians on negotiation, specialty selection, malpractice risk, and practice design.

Today, Dr. King practices and writes on his own terms. He lives in coastal South Carolina with his wife of more than 30 years. He enjoys sailing, aviation, travel, and time spent with their children and grandchildren.
