Maureen Gallatin

Maureen Gallatin is a lifelong horsewoman, writer, and the founder of Horses on a Mission. Her work sits at the intersection of thoughtful horsemanship, faith, and the inner life, helping people recognize that their love for horses may be connected to something deeper.

She has devoted her career to “giving people a leg up,” blending practical horsemanship, real-life barn stories, and down-to-earth spiritual insight. Through her writing, speaking, and coaching, she comes alongside horse people, equine professionals, and helpers, inviting them to step out of performance and into a gentler, truer story already unfolding in their lives, often with a horse or dog standing quietly by.

Maureen is the voice behind An Extra Flake, a long-running devotional read by horse lovers around the world, known for its simple stories, honest reflection, and steady reminder that “You matter to God.” Her full-color book by the same name features 36 “Extra Flakes,” each pairing a photograph with a short story, scripture, and prayer in her own words.

She is also the host of the soon-to-launch An Extra Flake Podcast, where she interviews horse people from a variety of backgrounds, exploring how faith shapes their lives and work, and how life with horses, in turn, shapes their faith.

In Horses on a Mission: On Faith, Calling, and Belonging, she shares deeply personal horse stories shaped by particular horses and dogs, written in a reflective memoir style that explores calling not as something we chase, but as something we gradually recognize, often only in hindsight, as the threads of our lives begin to make sense.

She lives in Tryon, North Carolina, and continues to encourage others who sense they are here to do something that matters.
