Dr. Chitra Awasthi

Chitra Awasthi writes at the meeting point of Indian wisdom, modern thought and contemporary life.

She is a sociologist, author and scholar-practitioner with training in both modern academia and traditional Indian learning. She has studied Sanskrit through the university system, pursued Acharya-level studies at Sampurnanand Sanskrit University, and learnt with traditional acharyas in the guru-shishya tradition. A disciple of Swami Rama of the Himalayas, she is also rooted in a living Himalayan yogic lineage.

Her background in modern sociology—including participation in international academic forums such as the European Sociological Association—allows her to approach the Gita, Upanishads, Dharmashastra, yoga and Indian knowledge traditions from a perspective that brings East and West into conversation.

Her recent books include Rewiring the Brain, Sanyasi and Manu Ki Drishti Se Hindu Samaj. She also writes novels and thrillers, carrying her interest in people, society and human motives into fiction.

She teaches the Gita and Upanishads and works with meditation, breath, relaxation, sound and holistic living—traditional practices adapted thoughtfully for modern life.

Across her work, she acts as a bridge between tradition and the contemporary world.
