Dr Chris Lane

Mark (Chris) Lane, Jr. is a board-certified chaplain, doctoral-trained researcher, adjunct professor, and U.S. Army officer specializing in trauma, moral injury, and emotional and spiritual formation. He serves in operational medical environments, providing clinical spiritual care, crisis counseling, and ethical advisement for service members, patients, and healthcare teams in high-stress settings.

Chris holds a Doctor of Education in traumatology and a Doctor of Ministry focused on trauma, moral injury, and the Christian life. He also serves as an adjunct professor, mentoring doctoral students in counseling and ministry, guiding research and clinical integration in areas related to trauma, moral injury, and spiritually integrated care. His work integrates theology, psychology, and lived experience to address one of the most overlooked gaps in discipleship, emotional competence. Drawing from years of experience in military chaplaincy, hospital systems, and emergency medicine, including his background as a flight paramedic, he develops practical, research-informed frameworks that help individuals and leaders process trauma, navigate moral complexity, and grow in maturity.

His writing focuses on emotionally intelligent discipleship, trauma-informed pastoral care, moral injury, and the intersection of faith and real-world ethical challenges. Future works include a model for trauma-informed narrative pastoral care, theological engagement with military service and killing, and teaching series addressing commonly misunderstood biblical texts.

Chris is committed to equipping churches, leaders, and service members with tools that move beyond information toward formation.
