Hello! My name is John William Davis. I was born on March 7th, 1993, to Don and Jeanette Davis in Memphis, Tennessee.
Many years ago, when I was little, I had my first major encounter with fantasy after my grandmother bought a movie for me. The Rankin-Bass version of The Hobbit. This film (and immediately after that, The Lord of the Rings) cemented my absolute love for the genre.
Over the rest of my life, I have obsessed over many things, but none of which have been as powerful as the works of Tolkien, Robert E. Howard, H, P, Lovecraft, and George R.R. Martin. But lately, I noticed a trend in writing that soured stories not just for myself, but for other fans of the genre.
There have been so many attempts to interject modernity into fantasy worlds. They say "write what you know," but lately, modern writers only know our world. They inject modernity into worlds that have no business being dirtied by our own. These writers are too busy putting themselves over the real purpose of a storyteller. To tell stories that challenge and lift us up.
I aim to bring that mindset to my books. I don't want you to read one of my books and have my politics forced down your throat. I want to tell you a story. Pure and simple. You be the judge of the characters and the story. Because here is a truth that modern writers seem to forget. You're smarter than me. So, come along with me as we explore these worlds together. And thank you for joining me. You are truly wonderful.
