David N. Hackney

Dr. David N. Hackney is a Maternal-Fetal Medicine (“high risk obstetrics”) physician in Cleveland, Ohio and Professor of Reproductive Biology at Case Western Reserve University.

On the day of the Dobbs decision, he was both on call for MFM and the Ohio Section Chair for the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. He was thus at the center of the vortex throwing physicians and patients into the ensuing chaos of abortion bans; later writing about this experience for the New York Times. His book about Maternal-Fetal Medicine under restrictive state laws, Impossible Choices, is forthcoming from MIT Press in August 2026.
