Kyle McCloud has spent more than two decades turning radar imagery into decisions that matter. He began as a Navy Intelligence Specialist, serving eleven years before separating in 2013, then carried that tradecraft into the defense industry with MacAulay-Brown, Leidos, and Serco. Since 2023 he has worked in commercial SAR at Umbra Lab, Inc., where he serves as a Commercial Program Manager on the Remote Sensing team and helps operators, analysts, and agencies get more out of every collection.
The SAR Analyst's Handbook: Principles, Techniques, and Tradecraft grew out of a gap Kyle kept running into: plenty of textbooks explained the physics of synthetic aperture radar, but very few taught an analyst how to actually read a scene. The book is written for the person at the workstation, not the person at the whiteboard.
Kyle is a certified GEOINT Professional (GPC-F and GPC-IAII), a Georgia Trend 40 Under 40 honoree, and the founder of K.McCloud Consulting, where he is building the SAR-100 through SAR-400 training curriculum. He lives in Lincoln County, Georgia, on eight acres not far from Clarks Hill Lake, and is happiest when he is either explaining a phenomenology problem or nowhere near a computer at all.
