Steve Hare

Steve Hare is a longtime sportswriter and the founder of Ohio Varsity, where he has covered high school sports in Northeast Ohio since 1997.

Over the course of nearly three decades, Hare has spent countless hours on fields, in gyms, and on sidelines, telling the stories of athletes, teams, and communities. His work has always focused on what happens beyond the scoreboard—the relationships, routines, and moments that stay with people long after the game ends.

The Turkey Bowl: What We Carried Forward is his first novel.

Written in a restrained, minimalist style, the book reflects the same perspective that has defined his career: that the most meaningful stories in sports—and in life—are about people, not outcomes.

Hare lives in Chardon, Ohio, with his wife and family.
