Jan Falconer

Helping children feel confident, connected, and ready to learn—one story at a time.

Jan Falconer is a children’s author, creator, and consultant whose work helps families build calm, confident reading habits from the very beginning.

She is the creator of the Sukie – Queen of Cats series, inspired by her real tortoiseshell cat, Sukie, and her Orkney barn companions. Through Sukie’s adventures, Jan gently explores themes of belonging, confidence, and finding your place in the world.

Alongside her stories, Jan created Jan Time – The Bedtime Reading Ritual, a simple, repeatable approach that helps families bring calm, connection, and consistency back to the end of the day. Designed for real life, Jan Time offers a practical way to make reading feel easy and enjoyable, even on busy evenings.

Jan’s work is shaped by a deep belief that before children learn to read, they learn how reading feels. Her approach focuses on creating small, meaningful moments that build confidence, connection, and a lasting love of stories.

She lives and works in Scotland and continues to write, create, and share resources for families and educators around the world
