Seth James Nielson, Ph.D. is the Founder and CEO of Crimson Vista, Inc., where he directs the firm’s cybersecurity strategy, industry partnerships, and scaling of forensic and engineering operations. As a subject-matter expert in cybersecurity, software engineering, and computer networks, he leverages a 25-year career to provide high-stakes governance and compliance solutions for organizations ranging from startups to Fortune 50 entities. Dr. Nielson has personally led teams through over 100 forensic projects—including investigations into trade secret misappropriation and the reconstruction of complex cyber-intrusions—and has served as a testifying expert in numerous legal cases involving matters such as source code forensics, cybersecurity standards of care, advanced technologies and protocols, and biometrics. He and his teams have been retained by organizations from startups to Fortune 100 companies to evaluate security postures and advise on cyber defense strategies and investigate difficult forensic issues.
Dr. Nielson’s strategic leadership is rooted in a deep technical foundation, having engineered or analyzed software systems and infrastructure for industry leaders like Microsoft and Google. He has worked in specialty subfields such as cryptography, biometrics, adversarial AI, and reverse engineering. In addition to his industry leadership, he is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Texas at Austin and previously served as the Director of Advanced Research Projects at the Johns Hopkins University Information Security Institute. Dr. Nielson holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Rice University and is the author of several books on topics of cryptography and cybersecurity.
