Julie M. Koch (pronounced “cook,” she/they), PhD, is a Professor of Counseling Psychology at the University of Iowa. She is a Licensed Health Service Psychologist. As a child, she would climb a tree with her stuffed animals and teach them math from leftover worksheets from school. She never imagined that someday she would have the joy and privilege of being an educator and counseling psychologist and touching college students’ lives. Julie is passionate about getting undergraduate students excited about pursuing careers in the helping fields. Her favorite day is any day a student comes to office hours. Growing up she learned that having empathy and being in touch with her emotions was a strength as a helping professional, and she enjoys helping others tap into those strengths as well. Julie is a mother of three humans and three cats and enjoys spending time in nature and adding native plants to her yard when she’s not at work.
