Martin Thomas was born near Cardiff, and is proud of his Welsh heritage. He was educated at a Quaker School, and obtained his PhD in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom.
He then went to work in the UK Ministry of Defence undertaking evaluations of military vehicles, before transferring to the UK Home Office (the equivalent of a US Department of State), where he led a team evaluating firefighting equipment and tactics.
He has always been a keen reader of Science Fiction and, on his retirement, he decided to bring his years of experience to the evaluation of the Ancient Astronaut Theory, as described in programs on the Blaze television channel. This is a field where there is conflict between eyewitnesses of unnatural phenomena, and those determined to refute this evidence at any price. He is a firm believer in the Engineering Method:
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it probably is a duck.
