Stuart Slavin MD MEd

Stuart Slavin, MD, MEd, is a pediatrician, medical educator, researcher, and author of The Success Trap: How the Pressure to Stand Out Is Fueling Anxiety, Depression, and Burnout in Teens—and the Fundamental Fix They Deserve. He previously served as Vice President for Well-Being at the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

Dr. Slavin received his MD from Saint Louis University School of Medicine and completed his residency training at UCLA, where he remained on the faculty for seventeen years. He later earned a master’s degree in education from the University of Southern California. In 2004, he returned to Saint Louis University School of Medicine as Associate Dean for Curriculum, where he led groundbreaking efforts to improve medical student mental health that produced dramatic decreases in rates of depression and anxiety.

For more than a decade, Dr. Slavin’s research has focused on the mental health of adolescents and young adults, particularly the role that excessive academic and achievement pressures can play in anxiety, depression, and burnout.
