In addition to his academic career, Rolf Versen (born 1949) has always pursued his hobbies and interests intensively.
He has been involved in water sports since 1960 and has been sailing regattas since 1965 with dinghies and keelboats in the North Sea, the Mediterranean and the Caribbean.
His great passion is historic motor racing on the circuit, but also hill climbs and rallies in Europe and the USA.
He was European vice-champion in the GT class in 1989 and has had numerous successes. Flying is another hobby of his, which culminated in the
Atlantic crossing in a 50-year-old Beechcraft biplane in 1987. On the water, he set a world record with a motorboat on the London-Monte Carlo route in 1992.
He is the author of several books that combine travel, cuisine and classic cars in the most enjoyable way.
He made a documentary series (15 episodes) about a trip on a catamaran that took him halfway around the world, which was broadcast on SKY.
He has recently published his new book, which deals with the history of the automobile in the post-war period in an autobiographical style under the motto ‘a life in motion’.
