Ilian Atsev is a Bulgarian-born author whose work explores the forgotten history and cultural memory of the Balkans.
He is the co-author of The Border Was Not a Line: The Forgotten Balkan War of 1925, a historical narrative that reconstructs one of the least known conflicts of the twentieth century through documents, eyewitness accounts, and family memories. Part of the inspiration for his work comes from the story of his great-grandfather, Atse Voivoda, whose life reflects the turbulent history of the region.
He is also the author of The Spirit of Heraclea, a collection of stories set in the ancient world, exploring the transformation of civilizations and the disappearance of the old Macedonian world as Rome rises in its place.
Through his writing, Atsev seeks to bring overlooked historical moments and forgotten human stories back into the global conversation
