KIM HICKS

Kim Hicks is an Australian author, former Australian Defence Force member, and long-serving police first responder who writes powerful children’s stories about mental health, resilience, and healing.

After serving six years in the Australian Defence Force, Kim spent twenty-three years working as a police first responder, supporting communities through emergencies, critical incidents, and the unseen weight many frontline workers carry.

Her books are inspired by lived experience and are written to help children understand big emotions like fear, anxiety, trauma, and recovery in ways that feel safe, hopeful, and empowering.

Through her Healing Storybook collection, Kim transforms complex experiences like trauma, courage, resilience, and healing into gentle stories children can understand. Her work aims to open conversations about mental health for families, children, and first responders, while reminding those who serve that healing is possible.

Her book Feathers From Stones shares the story of how even the heaviest experiences can slowly become lighter with courage, support, and time.

Kim lives in Australia and writes stories that remind readers of one simple truth:

Even the heaviest stones can turn into feathers.
