In 2022, she completed a thesis based on a history of an iconic Nova Scotia music venue and night club, the Misty Moon showbar, a cabaret that hosted over 450 bands in its 25 year timeline. The thesis contains interesting characters and engaging stories including a surprise Doobie Brothers show and a tragic murder that occurred at the bar.
Charlene has published two short stories with one nominated for a Pushcart prize. Hope Falls From the Sky, is her first novel, a genre-bending character-driven cosy science fiction mystery. The story follows a group of friends in a small Atlantic Canadian town who see a UFO. One of them has a secret about that night, and when he dies, he leaves an inexplicable fortune to his friends and a stranger named Jesse Weaver. Who is Jesse, and why does Christa feel so drawn to him? What is the uncanny Isabel Beauchamp hiding? Will old relationships entangle the friends? And where did the money come from?
The sequel to Hope Falls from the Sky is expected in 2027. Charlene is also working on a non-fiction work based on her thesis.
