Jamē Anderson curates the intersection of art, architecture, and audience. As Director of Cultural at SmithGroup, she leads a collective of creatives that harness the power of design to advocate for cultural places and their communities. She revels in amplifying and leading SmithGroup’s Cultural team who ask the big questions, seek to uncover histories, and expand a sense of belonging through a process-based, empathetic, and holistic design ethos.

A self-proclaimed “museum nerd”, Jame amplifies public experience through inquiry, empathy, and engagement - connecting people, places, and the products of our humanity. She has 30 years of experience in the Arts and Cultural Market including spending half of her career inside museums, including over a decade as Senior Architect/Exhibition Designer at the National Gallery of Art.

Jame’s comprehensive experience ranges from cultural architecture and interpretation, museum planning and programming, to an extensive portfolio of exhibition design. She has worked with clients across the US including the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington DC, The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, PA; The Sixth Floor Museum in Dallas, TX; The Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa, OK, and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, VA.

Jamē Anderson, AIA, has dedicated her career to cultural institutions, gaining her unique blend of experience having previously held positions at the National Gallery of Art and Smithsonian Institution, where she designed hundreds of special exhibitions, permanent collection installations, and special building projects. A vice president at SmithGroup, Anderson’s specialty lies at the intersection of architecture and exhibition design, recognizing how place and space evoke emotion and impact experience. Anderson leads SmithGroup’s national team of architects, planners, and engineers who focus exclusively on cultural capital projects. Under her leadership, this team has grown to repeatedly be named a top-ranked museum architecture practice. Her portfolio features planning and design for Gilcrease Museum, The Sixth Floor Museum, Smithsonian Institution, The Franklin Institute, Biggs Museum of American Art, and Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, among others. Anderson is a graduate of Rhode Island School of Design and Wake Forest University and often serves as a visiting lecturer at both schools.
