Born in the UK, the author began his working life with an apprenticeship in the building industry. However, his path changed course with the arrival of the oil boom in Scotland. Joining the rigs as a young man, he embarked on a 40-year career that would see him traverse thirteen countries across four continents.
His trajectory from roustabout to superintendent is a testament to a lifetime of grit and expertise. Throughout four decades, he navigated the extremes of the globe—from the punishing gales of the North Sea and the searing heat of Middle Eastern deserts to the dense rainforests of Southeast Asia and the African jungles.
Today, the author has traded the rig floor for the fairway. Having found his "Golfer’s Paradise," he now lives in retirement on a golf course in Indonesia, where he enjoys life with his wife, two sons and three grandchildren.
