D. Brandt

Douglas R. Brandt, Ph.D., is a poet and former scientist, manager, and consultant whose lifelong curiosity was sparked in a Kansas basement laboratory of his own making. That drive carried him to a Ph.D. in biochemistry from Kansas State University and a career spanning scientific research, medical device development, project leadership, and consulting. Along the way he earned two patents and authored multiple scientific publications before retiring in 2022 to devote greater attention to poetry and writing.

Poetry accompanied him long before retirement. His work appeared in his high school’s Non Pareil (1973) and in a Christian youth magazine soon after. In recent years, however, poetry has become a central vocation. His writing blends formal structures—villanelles, quatrains, refrains, and other patterned verse—with a scientist’s precision and a Christian’s engagement with Providence, suffering, redemption, relationships, caregiving, discipleship, and hope.

He is the author of Redemptions Rhythms: Interpretive Companion Series, a twelve-volume poetic journey from Foundation to Fullness. Built around a distinctive Message-and-Companion format, the series invites readers to encounter poetry through parallel expressions that illuminate one another while preserving mystery, depth, and discovery. The Foundation Triad—Redemptions, Deliverance, and Redemptions Refrain—establishes the theological and poetic framework upon which the remaining volumes build.

Doug lives in Lafayette, Indiana, with his wife Cheryl. Together they have four children, three children-in-law, and four grandchildren. He still runs barefoot, continues to write daily, and remains convinced that some of life’s deepest questions are best explored through both faith and poetry.
