Alan Yong is a Singapore-based writer whose work explores the complexities of memory, belonging, and the moral landscapes of youth. In Everybody Wants to Rule the World, his debut literary novel, Alan reimagines a coming-of-age in 1980s Singapore, drawing from his own experiences, blending evocative storytelling with reflections on faith, friendship, and the hidden costs of power.
Before turning to fiction, he traveled the world, built a career in Digital & eCommerce, applying analytical rigour and a human-centred perspective to his work. His earlier work, non-fiction book, Digital Shelves: Uncovering the Secrets of eCommerce in Consumer Packaged Goods, outlines his expertise in his professional life.
He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems & Computer Science from the National University of Singapore, and his writing has been shaped by his lifelong engagement with music, community, and the stories that define us. Alan lives in Singapore with his family.
