Annabel Deitchman

Annabel Polanco-Deitchman dreamed of becoming an illustrator as a child, and Mariela is the realization of that dream. A Dominican-American who grew up in upstate New York, she created How to Make a Mariela as a reflection on identity, belonging, and all the parts that make us who we are.

She now lives in Los Angeles with her husband, two little loves, and one furry love, where stories are shared daily, often around food.
