The NO-BS Team

My name is Patrick, and I spent the better part of four decades working in the infrastructure and construction industry — on job sites, in boardrooms, managing projects, building crews, and watching what actually separates the people who thrive in this world from the people who burn out, get passed over, or never quite figure out why things aren't working the way they should.

I have worked alongside electricians, pipefitters, welders, site foremen, heavy equipment operators, and the full spectrum of skilled tradespeople who keep the physical world functioning. I have sat across from apprentices on their first week and veterans with thirty years in the trade. I have managed contracts worth millions and helped first-year workers understand why showing up five minutes early is not optional. Across all of it — the projects, the people, the problems — I kept running into the same thing: capable, hard-working people who were missing knowledge that nobody had ever bothered to give them in plain language.

Not complicated knowledge. Not academic theory. The practical fundamentals — how to manage money on an irregular income, how to read a room on a job site, how to handle a difficult employer, how to understand the systems you are working on at a level deep enough to make you genuinely valuable. Information that exists, that is not secret, but that has almost never been written down in a form that a working person can actually pick up, read in thirty minutes, and put to use the same day.

That gap is why I founded No-BS Life Press and built The No-BS Team.

The team is a group of writers, tradespeople, subject-matter contributors, and working professionals who share one standard: say it straight, make it immediately useful, and leave out everything that doesn't serve the reader. No filler. No corporate language. No motivational padding that makes a book feel substantial while delivering nothing. Every volume we publish has to earn its place on the workbench or the bedside table by being genuinely useful to the person who needs it most.

Forty books. Four series. One consistent commitment to the person in the middle of their life who is building something real and needs the actual rulebook — not the version school handed out, but the one that works in the real world.

The No-BS Life Manual — Series 1

This is where every reader starts. Series 1 is the internal foundation — the ten essential life skills that nobody handed you but that everyone assumes you already have.

Money. Work. People. Home. Trouble. Health. The Future. Tech. Relationships. Mind.

Ten books covering ten areas of your life that can either work for you or quietly wreck you, depending on whether you understand the basics. Series 1 does not assume you have it figured out. It assumes you are smart enough to want to, and busy enough that you need the short version delivered without condescension.

If you are in your late teens, your twenties, or your early thirties and feel like you are running life on guesswork — this series is your starting point. If you are older and realize there are fundamentals you never properly locked in, it works equally well. Read all ten and you will have a working foundation that most people spend a decade building by accident, one expensive mistake at a time.

School taught you algebra and the parts of a cell. It did not teach you what co-signing a loan actually means, or why your credit score will follow you for decades, or how to handle a conflict with a manager without torching the relationship. Series 1 teaches you what school forgot.

The Apprentice's Reality Check — Series 2

Once you have the internal foundation, the next question is: how do you function in the professional world — specifically the skilled trades world — without getting eaten alive in the process?

Series 2 is the bridge from student to asset. Ten books covering what actually happens on a job site once the theory ends and the reality begins: the first-day culture shock and how to handle it, the unwritten hierarchy of the shop floor, how to read your employer before they form a permanent opinion of you, how to deal with clients on site without making it worse, how to calculate the actual math of your own labor value, and how to position yourself for advancement before most apprentices even realize advancement is something you have to pursue deliberately rather than wait for.

This is not career advice in the generic sense. It is a street-level map of how the trades actually work — the hierarchy, the politics, the unwritten rules that determine who gets promoted and who gets stuck doing the same job ten years from now without understanding why. If you are entering a trade or already a few years in, Series 2 is the education your apprenticeship program never included and your journeyman probably assumed you would figure out on your own.

Having spent decades on both sides of that dynamic — as someone who came up through the industry and as someone who managed people coming up through it — I can tell you that the gap Series 2 addresses is real, it is significant, and it costs capable people years of momentum they never get back.

Core Infrastructure — Series 3

Series 3 is where the technical depth begins in earnest.

Ten books covering the physical systems that run the world — electrical grids and power distribution, hydronic plumbing and infrastructure integrity, climate control and industrial air systems, structural welding and load science, heavy equipment and earth operations, high-pressure piping, timber framing and carpentry logic, masonry and structural stone, site management and crew leadership, and infrastructure inspection and legal compliance.

This is the meat of the trade. The physics, the installation logic, the sequencing, the code knowledge, and the diagnostic thinking that separates a journeyman who gets called back from one who gets passed over when the next contract comes around. Each book in Series 3 is built for the reader who is past the entry-level material and ready to go deep into a system that matters.

If Series 1 gave you the life foundation and Series 2 gave you the job site skills, Series 3 gives you the technical credibility that makes you genuinely difficult to replace. These are the books that sit on the workbench, get dog-eared, get referenced mid-job, and get handed to the new apprentice with the instruction to read it before Monday.

High-Tech Specifications — Series 4

This is the elite tier — and it was built for a specific reader.

Series 4 covers the specialized, high-margin, complex systems that represent the leading edge of skilled technical work: vertical transportation and elevator mechanics, industrial robotics and autonomous systems, data center infrastructure and redundant power, medical systems engineering, PLC and automation architecture, smart building integration, cleanroom and laboratory environments, utility-scale renewable grid technology, advanced fire and life-safety systems, and high-tech forensic diagnosis and failure analysis.

These are not entry-level topics and the books do not treat them as such. Series 4 is written for the reader who has moved through the earlier series — or who comes with existing expertise — and is ready to position themselves at the top of the professional value chain. The technicians who command premium rates. The specialists who get called for the jobs nobody else can solve. The people who have moved from working a wage to owning their professional future and their market value.

The systems covered in Series 4 are the systems I watched the industry spend thirty years building demand for while simultaneously struggling to find qualified people to work on them. The gap between what these specializations pay and what most tradespeople know about them is one of the most significant untapped opportunities in skilled work today. Series 4 exists to close that gap for the reader who is ready to step into it.

The Complete Road Map

Read in sequence, the four series function as a complete system — a structured path from foundational life skills to elite technical specialization, built for the working person who takes their development seriously.

Series 1 builds the person. Series 2 builds the professional. Series 3 builds the expert. Series 4 builds the specialist.

You do not need to read them all to get value — every book stands independently and delivers on its own terms. But if you are someone who wants to move deliberately from where you are now to where you are capable of being, the full road map across all four series is one of the most direct and practical paths available in print today.

Four decades in the industry taught me that the people who consistently outperform their peers are rarely the most naturally talented. They are the ones who sought out the right information early, applied it consistently, and never stopped building. The No-BS Team publishes for exactly those people.

No fluff. No filler. No nonsense.

Just the rules that work — from people who have been in the work.
