Petar Zec

Petar Zec is a Serbian director, dramatist, and author of thirty-four published books. He holds a PhD from the University of Belgrade, where his doctoral thesis on Nobel laureate Ivo Andrić established him as a foremost scholar of the great writer's work. Over five decades, Zec has directed nearly one hundred theatre productions and ten television films. He is a professor, founder of the Courtyard Theatre in Belgrade, and recipient of numerous international awards.

His works in English include My Californian Dream, My Search for the American Dream, Poisoned by the Balkans, Return to Jerusalem, Laptop Brothers (a novel in live dialogues, co-authored with Claude, an AI by Anthropic), Dancing on Burning Sand, and The Sensuality of Writing, Second Expanded Edition, a collection of essays enlarged with the premiere essay From Madrid Straight to Heaven.

His newest title is The Media Life of Ivo Andrić, a study of how the Nobel laureate's work has lived across film, television, and theatre — a culmination of Zec's lifelong scholarship on Andrić.
