Petronio Morillo has spent more than three decades helping young athletes grow on and off the field. A lifelong coach and sports complex manager, he’s seen firsthand how powerful — and sometimes challenging — the youth sports experience can be for families. Born in Maryland in 1971, Petronio graduated from American University in 1996 and has dedicated his career to teaching, mentoring, and developing programs that put kids first.
In 2010, he launched a sports-based child development program that now operates in four eastern states and has positively impacted tens of thousands of children. He also coached for Maryland’s Olympic Development Program in 2015–2016, further deepening his perspective on the pressures and potential of competitive youth sports. His work is grounded in the belief that sports are more than just games — they’re opportunities to teach respect, resilience, and teamwork.
Through his writing and coaching, Petronio helps parents understand the emotional impact of youth sports — and how unchecked sideline behavior can unintentionally harm their children’s experience. With a helpful, understanding voice, he guides families to become positive, supportive influences in their children’s athletic journeys.
