Bruce Kerr was born in 1947 in Waukesha, Wisconsin. He was a high school state champion swimmer for 3 years. Growing up In the shadow of his hometown hero, Les Paul, inventor of the electric guitar and multitrack recording, he learned guitar and formed a folk song group, the "Coachmen," who played over 100 local shows and appeared on Milwaukee tv.
In 1968 his U. of Michigan college rock band, the Byzantine Empire, signed a major recording contract with Bell Records from which, out of 8 x 45rpm records no hits came from of the band’s original songs. So, law school.
After law school at the U. of Wisconsin and a year and a half as a lawyer at Milwaukee Legal Services, Bruce dropped out to go on the road for 20 years to perform in ski and Caribbean resorts, bars and college pubs in a duo-then-band, Spud City, and eventually settled in Silicon Valley just as tech took off. He married his hometown girlfriend, Linda, and they had a boy and a girl, Chris and Emily.
Bruce passed the California Bar in 1995. He's retired now from his latest 23-year term as a lawyer, most recently at Oracle. Before that, he was Assistant General Counsel at Sun Microsystems until Oracle's acquisition.

His 5-part jazz a capella song, “Christmas is You” was published by Fred Bock Music in 2022 and has been performed by high school, college, and community choruses nationally. Before that, in 2015, his alma mater high school chorus performed it which thrilled Bruce to link back to his early school years.
Back in the day, he opened for "Weird Al" Yankovic. He's an irregular feature of the Dr. Demento Show on the internet (160+ song plays since 1987).
