Barnett Berry

Barnett Berry is a Senior Research Fellow at the Learning Policy Institute while also serving as a senior advisor to the Center for Reimagining Education at the University of Kanas. In the 1990s he led the state partnership network of the National Commission on the Teaching & America's Future — which spurred his founding of the Center for Teaching Quality, which launched the nation’s first virtual network of teacher leaders. In 2021, he was awarded the James A. Kelly Award for Advancing Accomplished Teaching by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. His latest book,The Future of Public Education: One District’s Journey to Transform Schools and Systems (2026) frames a bold vision and roadmap for creating a coherent education ecosystem that every child deserves in a rapidly changing world In 2026, he helped create a network of school districts in California to advance new secondary school designs for deeper, purposeful learning.
