Steve McMahon

Steve McMahon is the CEO of MindSet Safety Management, an educational consulting organization providing trauma-responsive crisis intervention training across the nation and internationally. With over 30 years of experience in special education, Steve has dedicated his career to transforming how educators and professionals respond to students in crisis.

Steve's journey began in 1990 as a special education teacher, working in resource rooms and self-contained environments for students with disabilities. He quickly recognized that traditional control-based approaches often escalated rather than resolved behavioral crises. Through his work in specialized programs and as a district-wide behavior intervention specialist, he developed the connection-over-control philosophy that would become the foundation of the MindSet methodology.

Mentored by Marshall Siler, the founder of the MindSet Safety Management Curriculum, Steve has led the ongoing development of the curriculum and expanded its reach across the nation and beyond. The approach is built on the MindSet Four-Step Model of Acknowledgment, Acceptance, Validation, and Empowerment—a framework that has helped thousands of educators build authentic relationships with their most struggling students. In 2007, he founded Intervention Support Service, which evolved into MindSet Safety Management.

Steve's unique perspective is shaped not only by his professional expertise but also by his personal experiences with loss and healing. He understands that crisis intervention is fundamentally about human connection, dignity, and the courage to meet people where they are.
