Raf Nicholson

Dr Raf Nicholson has been researching the history of women’s cricket for over 15 years. She completed her doctoral thesis on the history of women's cricket, entitled “Like a man trying to knit?” (riffing off an infamous Len Hutton quote), at Queen Mary University of London in 2015. Her first book Ladies and Lords: A History of Women’s Cricket in Britain (Peter Lang, 2019) was shortlisted for the MCC & Cricket Society Book of the Year.

She has covered six World Cups for The Guardian and also writes about women’s cricket for The Observer, BBC Sport and ESPNCricinfo.

She met her husband, Syd Egan, at a women’s cricket match and together they set up CRICKETher, a website specialising in women’s cricket. You can find them on YouTube via The CRICKETher Weekly, chatting about all the latest news in women’s cricket.

Raf is a Senior Lecturer in Sports Journalism at Bournemouth University, Vice Chair of The Cricket Society, and a former Chair of the British Society of Sports History.
