Ricky Aris is a children’s author writing under the name The Unlikely Author - a name inspired by his own journey with reading and writing challenges growing up.
Having experienced first-hand what it feels like to struggle in the classroom, Ricky is passionate about showing children that difficulties do not define their potential. Through his stories, he aims to encourage confidence, resilience, and belief, especially in children who may doubt themselves.
Ricky is the author of the middle-grade series The Power of the Poster, written for children aged 7-14. Each book explores personal development through sport, tackling themes such as self-belief, inclusion, coping with difference, overcoming anxiety, and learning from positive role models. The first book in the series, The Power of the Poster: The Footballer, is Ricky’s debut novel and holds special meaning for him and his family.
Alongside writing, Ricky enjoys visiting schools to speak with pupils about confidence, perseverance, and embracing challenges. His work is closely aligned with reading engagement, wellbeing, and open conversations about resilience and self-worth.
Ricky lives in Bedfordshire with his wife Rachel and their children.
