James Blessinger

James Blessinger is an independent historian working in the strange margins of documented history. He has published more than fifty nonfiction guides to haunted locations across all fifty U.S. states and territories, exploring how memory, place, and record-keeping shape what survives.

His work focuses on overlooked historical episodes, institutional mysteries, and the ordinary objects that quietly carry systems of power—files, tools, clothing, documents, and artifacts that outlast the structures that created them. Rather than pursuing legend or speculation, he draws on archival materials, historical journalism, and institutional records to trace how authority, identity, and consequence move through everyday forms.

Blessinger resides in Manheim Township, Pennsylvania, where he continues to research strange and unsettling histories found at the edges of official narratives. His nonfiction work operates in the realm often called “weird history”: true events that feel improbable not because they are false, but because they reveal how the machinery of history often hides in plain sight.

He shares his home with a corgi named Stephen King.
