Marcie Davis is an author, storyteller, podcaster, and lifelong disability advocate whose work centers on compassion, courage, and the extraordinary bonds between people and animals. She is the creator of the beloved children’s book Humphrey the Hopeful Helper, inspired by her decades of lived experience partnering with service dogs and working animals.
Living most of her life with a spinal cord injury, Marcie brings a deeply personal and authentic voice to stories about disability, inclusion, and resilience—inviting readers of all ages to see ability, kindness, and hope through a wider lens. Her writing is shaped by a long career in victim services and nonprofit leadership, where she has walked alongside children and families navigating trauma, healing, and transformation.
Marcie is also the longtime host of the award-winning podcast Working Like Dogs, where she shares stories from around the world that celebrate service animals, therapy animals, and the human–animal bond. Through her books, speaking, and advocacy, she is passionate about helping children grow empathy, confidence, and understanding—especially around visible and invisible disabilities.
She lives with her husband and a remarkable family of service dogs and therapy animals who continue to teach her about trust, presence, and joy. Her work reminds us that even when bodies have limits, the spirit—and hope—can be boundless.
