Robert Rickelman grew up in the suburbs of Chicago. He studied at the University of Illinois and John Marshall Law School. In 1995, he moved to Tucson. Following a suicide attempt in 1996, Robert was diagnosed as Seriously Mentally Ill (SMI). He still carries this SMI designation. Robert earned his BA in Spanish from the University of Arizona in 2000 and has been published in various literary magazines. His story, "Phyllis," won Inscape Magazine's 2018 Nonfiction Editors' Choice Award. He lives in Tucson with his wife, Pat, who has never given up on him.
