V. J. Harris

V. J. Harris is a former British police officer whose three decades of service included extensive undercover work across the UK and overseas. Drawing on years spent embedded within dangerous criminal networks, he brings a rare authenticity to his writing, shaped by lived experience rather than research alone.

After leaving policing, Harris moved into the UK Civil Service, working in national security vetting—deepening his insight into trust, risk, and the personal cost of secrecy. He retired from government service in 2024.

Born and raised in Birmingham, Harris remains a Brummie at heart, although he now lives in North Somerset with his gorgeous, and long-suffering wife, Tracey. He has two adult children of whom he is immensely proud.

Away from writing, he plays the guitar and favours Blues and Rock music, and he loves attending live music gigs. He is a keen fan of Birmingham City Football Club, the Blues, which keeps him well-grounded.
