Michael D. Murray

Michael D. Murray is a University Research Professor and the Spears Gilbert Professor of Law at the University of Kentucky J. David Rosenberg College of Law. He leads UK’s Artificial Intelligence and the Law Project and the Blockchain, Cryptocurrency, NFT, and the Metaverse Law Project, working at the collision point where cutting-edge tech meets law practice reality. His scholarship and teaching focus on generative and agentic AI in legal practice, deepfakes and deception, intellectual property (copyright, trademark, and right of publicity), and the power of visual legal rhetoric—how lawyers persuade when words aren’t enough.

A former federal law clerk and litigator, Murray brings practice-grounded instincts to the classroom and to continuing education for lawyers and judges. His recent work tackles real-world problems like AI-generated “evidence,” professional responsibility in AI-assisted advocacy, and the legal myths that distort policy debates. He is a prolific author and frequent speaker nationally and internationally on AI, IP, and the future of legal practice.
