Sarah D. Phillips

Sarah D. Phillips is Professor of Anthropology at Indiana University-Bloomington, USA. Her interests range from disability issues in Ukraine, to the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster, to the cultural significance of Dolly Parton, to American literature in translation in the USSR during the Cold War, to Appalachian Studies, and more. Phillips speaks fluent Ukrainian, Russian, and Ashe County North Carolina English, and really bad French. She enjoys traveling, singing, gardening, kicking ass in taekwondo, and naturally, writing. At Indiana U, her classes focus on health across cultures and the social science of care. She knits each of her students a winter hat. Life is too short to go around with a cold noggin'.
