Finlay James Walker

For those who don’t know me, my name is Finlay Walker: I am one of those people who’s never satisfied by doing one thing. I have a great multitude of interests, such as languages, city planning, dancing, cycling and maths, and I believe in giving things a go- because enjoyment should always be a big priority.

I was born on November the 7th, 2007- this was in Dudley, but I have lived in Wolverhampton since I was four.

I’m going to go into a bit more detail about me and some of my interests…

Dancing

At the age of 9, I began dancing at a local beginner class- I learnt some very elementary elements of ballroom dancing, and this enabled me to compete at a low level with my first partner when I was 10. I have been a competitive dancer ever since, and I compete in ballroom, Latin, American smooth and old-time sequence.

French

At secondary school, I learnt very quickly that languages were my favourite subject. There seemed to be a lot of distaste surrounding language learning amongst my peers, but I revelled in discovering new methods of speaking. (I have always been keen to talk.)

In my final year of secondary school, year 11, I completed my French A level two years early.

Writing

At the tail end of year 9, at nighttime when I was about to fall asleep, I came up with the idea for my first novel, Necrogenesis. At first, I conceived it to be quite dystopian, but as I write (I’m still writing it, though the first part has not long been released) I’m finding that it has a current of optimism and joy in the mundane. When I published this book, I also released a poetry collection alongside it. The poems included are pieces that I have written over the years, with Lanterns In the Sky being the oldest (I think so at least). Necrogenesis is my first novel. I will write many more.
