Theodis Mims

Theodis (Theo) Mims is an inspiring voice in early childhood literacy who proudly hails from East Cleveland, Ohio. Now a longtime resident of the Dayton area, he brings a wealth of educational and community experience to his writing. A former educator, Mims has spent more than a decade serving the Dayton community, touching young lives through both his classroom work and his commitment to literacy.

A product of the East Cleveland Public Schools, Mims attended Central State University before graduating from Wilberforce University, and later earned a Master’s Degree in Adult Education and Training from the University of Phoenix. His books reflect both the heart of a teacher and the imagination of a storyteller, crafted to support early reading confidence, school readiness, and positive family engagement.

Mims is the author of three children’s books: Theo Plays, Get Ready For School Theo!, and Hunter, each designed for early readers with simple sentences, joyful illustrations, and relatable childhood moments that encourage confidence and a love for reading.

He enjoys sports, reading, and gospel music, and treasures time with his wife, Hertia, and their three daughters — Tammara, Alyssa, and Taylor — who continue to inspire his storytelling.
